2019 Goals – Life in the Slow Lane

2019 is here and it is time for some new personal and professional goals. Honestly, I have very few personal bucket list items left … swim with dolphins, drive a high performance track-worthy car, and jump out of airplane (maybe). While not bucket list items, I still have some personal and professional goals …

Personal Goals

Play in a band – I might need to do this via Skype. A buddy of mine in New York, Steve Lahey, has also picked up guitar and has suggested a couple of band names … F.O.G. (Fat Old Guys) or B.O.G. (Bald Old Guys). I like B.O.G. n’ F.O.G..

Diet and exercise – Need to drop the “F” and will need to do so by also dropping the “B” … baking and bread. The really good news is that my gym membership is free under my Medicare Supplement Plan. #winning!

Camping – Our plans for 2018 didn’t work out so well. I’m too cheap to buy a new motor home that we are only going to use a handful of times each year but, it would be nice if that handful of times did not include a tow truck.

Professional Goals

Do what makes me happy – I’ve done a lot of different types of gigs over the last 10 years and some have felt like downright chores. I like to work but, since I don’t need to work … It’s time for work to be fun.

Avoid long-term gigs – Focus on no more than 8 hours and preferably in one day.

Pre-packaged training vs. custom solutions – Most of what I have done to-date is to provide custom solutions. This is a lot of work and the returns have proven to be diminishing. My fault. I always provide more than I commit to. #exceedingexpectations

Focus On …

2 to 4 hour workshops – I love doing workshops and have several prepared. These will be one of my three focus areas. No open workshops. I will do these for companies or organizations only and at your provided location. These will be for a reasonable fixed fee plus materials per attendee that might range from $0.00 to ? The more folks you have, the more cost effective it will be.

Salesperson pre-hire assessments – I spent most of my working life hiring and training salespeople. I know how costly and time consuming this task is and … that’s if you choose the right person. Choose incorrectly and everything moves from costly to crippling.

NetWorks! Boise – I started this B2B networking (leads) group as a business in 2007 and it continues to flourish. I am in an agreement to sell it to one of our members and this will happen in four years. During this time I plan on focusing on new and better services for our members. Time to boost their adrenaline.

At the same time, we do have some openings. Until those have been filled, NetWorks! will be my lead offering. No doubt other opportunities will be generated from these activities.

Frankly, I don’t know if I will ever quit working completely. As previously stated … I like to work! Then there is the possibility that I will want to work more in order to buy something specific like a mountain cabin, we could have another recession which might force me to reevaluate my options, or … I might just take some time going slow and then decide to go fast.

I might also kick the bucket instead of ticking off items in it, in which case … all of this is academic anyway 🙂
