Tips on Managing Deals and Pipelines
To recap from previous discussions … deal records are associated with contact records (although they do not have to be) and deal records are placed in a pipeline. The pipeline is your data source for deal (sales) reports and forecasts.
Deal records have two “log activity” sections – The one on the left below is virtually identical to the options found on contact records. The multi-colored one on the right is actually a prompt for you to schedule a task to move this deal forward. As a best practice, this is something that you should always do! Once you have done so … these action buttons will disappear but reappear when needed.
What is a stuck deal on a pipeline? If you see, in red, “Stuck X days” on a deal card, that is a notice for you that this deal does not seem to be moving. This is based on whether or not you have optionally set the maximum number of days that a deal should remain in any given stage (done in pipeline creation).
Is the pipeline “dynamic” or “static”? Your pipeline is a living and breathing entity! In addition to watching out for deals that are not moving, it is just as important that you monitor your deal records for current accuracies! Things change and if these change you will want to edit your deal record …
- Deal amount
- Deal percentage chance of closing
- Projected close date
If these fields are not accurate, your sales forecasts will be worthless!
I could go on, but I won’t. Enough for today.
